Each brings unique commercial, military and political strengths, its own agents and political system, and three tech trees representing civic, military and engineering disciplines. The playable factions represent key powers within the Greco-Roman, Barbarian, and Eastern cultures, and each offers a notably different and deeper form of gameplay experience from those in previous Total War games. This page is your source for background information about each of the playable factions: their starting position on the campaign map, their civic and military focus, and some of their key battlefield units. On a slightly related note, is there a way to add onagers to barbarian factions? I can add them but I cant change the building required to make them, which the barbs cant get.Ranging from the Spanish coast to the far-flung, exotic kingdoms of the east, the campaign map for Total War: Rome II is breathtaking in scope, and a study in detail and variety. And with the same army I can decimate the romans without even trying (this is on v. an army of gothic cav, spearmen, chosen archers, night raiders and chosen axemen- with a couple of berserkers for good measure- can destroy any other barb army. it seems to me that they dont have any weaknesses. axemen and chosen axemen are both solid troops, and then you get naked fanatics, night raiders, and berserkers as well. screeching women are fantastic early game units against other barb nations low morale warbands. they have one of the best archer units in the game with chosen archers, a good range of cav with gothic/light/noble. the spear warband is a godsend and is so much better than the basic warbands of the other barbs.

head hurlers are VERY effective, but are so damn fiddly to use.Ĭompare this to the germans.

they also have no skirmishers which is a real pain in the ass early on. the britons have chariots, but no archers (except the chariots- so many things wrong here in a historical sense, it boggles the mind) and not very effective cavalry. they have forester warbands and thats it apart from the generic barb units. Is it just me or are the barbarian factions a bit.
